Dead Hand
Also known as Perimeter, and Hand from Coffin, Dead Hand is a Cold-War-era fail-deadly nuclear-control system that can automatically trigger the launch of Russian ICBMs if a nuclear strike is detected by seismic, light, radioactivity and overpressure sensors. A 2009 article in Wired magazine claimed Dead Hand exists, is ready to react as intended, and still receives system upgrades.
